Climate Smart Agriculture and Economic Empowerment

Climate Smart Agricultural Value Chain and Economic Empowerment is a livelihoods program funded by NCA – NORAD and implemented by CeRID as a main partner. The main goal of the project is to contribute to sustainable development by helping to empower marginalized people to lift themselves out of poverty while building their resilience towards climate change. The project addresses three interlinked essential barriers to sustainable development; youth unemployment, climate change and food insecurity.

The project is intended and designed to support, promote and strengthened capacity of both vocational skills and a small-scale agricultural farm producers in Luuq District, The project is therefore a combined component of agriculture and skills to promote and improve the economic survival of the youth and small scale farmers. The project has been serving for three years since 2021. The project supports training of youth right holders on vocational skills in various technical courses in Beled Hawa at Sayid Mohamed Technical Education Training College. It as well supports linking of youths to the financial institutions for financial inclusion and finding of job opportunities and placements for youth in private business sectors in the area. The project provides training/teaching and learning materials to youth trainees in SaMTEC for easy coaching and fostering quality skills trainings and supports the project staff and college instructors with monthly incentives.

On the other hand, the CSEE project supports small scale farmer producers in Luuq on capacity building trainings and provision of certified and treated quality seeds to small scale farmers as input supplies for them to increase their income and food production. The projects also supports the IDPs, returnees and venerable host communities in Luuq for provision of farm input supplies and leasing of farms. It also integrate the CeRID valley seeds one store shop in supporting of distribution channels to promote affordable farm input supplies in Luuq districts and surroundings. The project enhanced development of Community Managed Disaster Risk Reduction plans to promote early warning system on climate weather change. Furthermore, it also promotes strengthening and engagement of government institutions to provide agricultural extension services and collaboration with federal and state levels to create enabling environment including development and enforcement of policies, favorable tax administration, access to financial services, provision of support services.
